Turning your child's photo into a 3D animated character: how it works

To turn your child's photo into a 3D animated character, an AI analyzes the facial features (eyes, smile, hairstyle) then generates a faithful stylized 3D avatar. This character is then “locked” so it stays identical across every page, video and movie.

We've all dreamed, watching an animated film, of seeing our child come to life on screen with those big expressive eyes and warm colors. Good news: turning your child's photo into a 3D animated cartoon is now possible in just a few minutes, and the result is astonishingly true to life.

What the AI actually does

The secret comes down to three steps. First, the AI analyzes the face: the shape of the eyes, the smile, the hairstyle, the hair color, the little quirks that make it truly your child and not another.

Next, it redraws these features in an animated 3D style inspired by the great studios: luminous skin, big shining eyes, soft and endearing proportions. The goal isn't a photographic copy, but a character who looks like your child “in cartoon form.”

Finally — and this is where all the difference lies — the character is locked. This means it stays identical from one image to the next: the same face on page 3 and page 24, the same hero in the book, the video and the movie. That's what sets a real character apart from a series of images with no consistency.

The magic isn't a pretty image. It's finding the exact same child on every page.

The ideal photo (our tips)

The sharper the starting photo, the more faithful the character will be. A few simple rules:

  • Front-facing: the child looks at the lens, face clearly visible.
  • Good lighting: daylight preferably, no backlighting.
  • Clear face: avoid caps, sunglasses or hair over the eyes.
  • One person only: no group photos, to avoid any confusion.
  • Good resolution: a recent smartphone photo is more than enough.

Several styles, not just one

The 3D animated style is the most requested, but it isn't the only one. Depending on the adventure and the child's age, you can choose from several visual worlds: soft watercolor, fairy tale, colorful comic book… The character stays recognizable whatever style you pick.

And the likeness, really?

That's the question we get asked the most. The honest answer: the AI captures a child's “vibe” remarkably well — their smile, their gaze — but it remains an artistic interpretation. It's not a police sketch, it's an “animated-film” version of your child. And that's exactly what people love: you recognize them right away, with a touch of magic added.

From cartoon to story hero

Turning a photo into a 3D animated character is only the beginning. At “Toutes mes histoires”, this avatar then becomes the hero of an illustrated book, a narrated video and even a mini-movie — all of it, if you wish, narrated in your own voice.

When it comes to privacy, the original photo is only used to generate the avatar, then deleted. Processing takes place within the European Union, in compliance with the GDPR.
